7 warehouse pallet storage methods

As you know companies have the warehouses to store their products in bulk. There are various warehouses and storing methods that can be used for storing the pallet effectively. Therefore, here are some of the storing methods that can prove to be the best.

Here’s a list of seven warehouse pallet storage methods to suit as per the stock that needs to be stored and the warehouse location. If you want you can also google the pallet racking system in Dubai and find the same mentioned below here -

  • Common among all the warehouse's storage methods is the Block Stacking. Pallets stacked vertically on the floor like the wheat bags. Though the height of the pallet ladder always varies due to certain conditions or situations. As the weight of the item is kept on the pallet, the pallet's own condition, height up to which forklift can lift the pallet and height clearance. The withdrawal system in this type of method is LIFO i.e. Last in First out. This is one of the easiest and convenient ways to stack the stock in any warehouse. A backdrop is that you cannot access the bottom pallet, even if needed, without removing the upper ones.

  • Another appropriate method is the Pallet Stacking Frames. These are the stacking racks constructed from decks and posts. These are advantageous for stacking pallets to the increased heights without the risk of falling. Stacking frames come in handy for the temporary storing of stocks and it’s removal whenever needed. A demerit in this method is that it is vulnerable to honeycombing (empty spaces in the warehouse which leads to less efficient use of full warehouse)

  • Single Deep Pallet Racking system can be found in the marts and is used in the warehouses for the availability of desired stock at any time. This system does not have the demerit of honeycombing like the above two storage methods. The structure is like a single rack where pallets/cases can be placed and removed with the help of forklifts, without disturbing the whole pallet storing. There are certain conditions attached to the opting of single deep pallet racking. There must be enough floor spaces for the making of aisles.

  • Double Deep Pallet Racking system is the extended version of the single deep pallet rack. Though it leads to more storage capacity and fewer aisles requirements in the warehouse, the threat of honeycombing exists, unlike single deep pallets. An extra expenditure of double and deep reach forklift is also added to this storage method.

  • Drive-In Rack by the name it is understood that the forklifts can drive inside the rack. It is somewhat similar to the double deep pallet rack system, only in this system you can enter the rack and place the pallets/cases. Since the forklifts have limited space, it takes much time as compared to other methods to securely place the stocks. Here, also the retrieval method is the same as the block-stacking i.e. LIFO, but the storage capacity is enhanced.

  • Pallet Flow Rack is the latest and expensive storing method. It is suitable for high ranking and maintenance warehouses. In this method, a rack is structured with a conveyor that allows the stock to transport from one end of the rack to the other. So on as you place the loads it will get stacked one after the other in a line. First in First out i.e. FIFO is the recovery method here because the pallets are stacked from one end and retrieved from the end. But as mentioned before not every warehouse is capable of planting this high pallet storage method.

  • Finally, the last one is the Push Back Rack. It is easy to understand the mechanism through its name. When the pallets/loads are placed in the rack, it pushes back the already placed pallets/loads in the rack. Rail guided carriers are used. The working of the push back rack is when you place the pallet on the rack in the front position it moves the already placed pallet to further backward. When you retrieve the pallet from the rack, the second positioned pallet automatically comes to the front position.

Now you understand, the LIFO system has opted here. It’s difficult when you need to access middle and backward pallets without disturbing the front one. Though it is storage efficient and uses the full space of the warehouse.

Here were the most effective and efficient warehouse pallet storage methods that are widely used. We have suggested you keep in mind all the conditions and situations of the warehouse possible. For a low-cost warehouse, either block stacking or pallet stacking frames can be considered. For the high and specific warehouse, thought can be given to pallet flow rack or drive-in rack. Therefore you need to decide as per the warehouse structure and the product that needs to be stored safely.

Save Your Warehouse Storage Space with the Right Pallet Racking System

When you walk around your warehouse, do you feel a bit confused about where to go for a particular category? Or most of your workers are running here and there, to figure where the inventory is located? If yes, then you are wasting a lot of time and money on an unnecessary storage system that is not at all useful for you. For a better warehouse functionality, it is more than important to rethink the storage system, and clutter you are not even aware of.

Talking about the warehouse management system, why not give a chance to the pallet racking system, and get rid of the frustration of a chaotic operation and shipping mistakes every day?

What is Pallet Racking System for Warehouse?

Pallet racks are one of the best storage solutions for stockrooms and warehouses. They are basically to use the unused vertical space upwards with multiple beams and maximize the space for stocking items, as higher as possible. Most of you might have been experimenting with the floor space, neglecting that pallet racks are there to give you an efficient option.

If you have already used pallet racks to store items or considering installing pallet racking system in your warehouse, then here are some tips for pallet racking space-
Reduce the Width of Aisles:

In most cases, the aisles used between the racks are determined by the manufacturer's guidelines, keeping safety regulations in mind, when heavy-duty storage is involved. But in other cases, you can reduce the aisle width to the required sizes, and increase the shelves to accommodate more stock. This allows you to get more space than before, in the same space.

Use Safety Panels:
Safety panels are a great option not only for the security of your workers while managing the inventory, but to properly measure the stock on a rack by offering a hard barrier against which the product can assemble, and let you know how much space you still have, to store more inventory.

Add More Racks to Your Spaces:
It might not always be possible to attach additional racks to increase the storage, but a great way without disturbing the setting. You can also use mobile racking to get fast product movements plus, you can free up space in pallet racks, you don't access much.

Consider Double Deep Pallet Racks:
Just like its name, double deep pallet racking offers double storage space, with the minimal rack configuration. Eliminating aisles in your warehouse and increasing the pallets without compromising the safety, double deep pallets are a cost-effective option for, many distribution types as compared to other racking options.

Benefits of Pallet Racking System for Industrial Warehouse

If you haven’t considered installing pallet racks in your warehouse yet, then here are the benefits you are missing out:

Safety:

One of the biggest advantages of the pallet racking system is the increased warehouse safety when you and your workers are piled up with multiple orders. Pallet racking creates a safe warehouse for moving and picking inventory from different sections. Offering a solid storage solution, which is simple to handle and understand, pallet racks help you avoid unwanted accidents, and can be fixed on the floor to prevent risks and injuries while transporting the stock.

Maximum Space Utilization:
When you have tight storage space and increasing the size is something you don't find an option, then it is better to utilize the existing space as much as possible. Talking about maximizing warehouse space, the pallet racking system is frequently used to embrace the height of a warehouse, rather than just the floors, making the most out of your upward area. Pallet racking systems will also boost your profits because you can store more products conveniently.

Convenience While Inventory Moving:
Upward or vertical pallet racking is a convenient storage solution in the warehouse management industry, which makes it easier to bring down pallets with a forklift that will boost the productivity of your warehouse staff. Whether for heavy-duty equipment management to regular order picking, pallet racking makes everything smooth and hassle-free.

Enables You to Have a Variety of Inventory Control Methods
Every warehouse has different needs and inventory, which must be managed in a way so that your staff knows exactly where to go for something specific. The pallet racking system gives you a wide range of options for different types of storage designs depending on the stock and requirements of your space. From single pallet racks to double deep pallets and cantilever racking and so on, there are so many options available for each type of storage that you can manage the inventory flow in the easier way possible. How Material Handling Equipment Make Your Stock Picking Easy

Whether a large industrial warehouse or a small stockroom for day to day stock picking, businesses feel the pressure of reducing labour cost and increase the material handling efficiency with innovative steps. In order to resolve this issue, more and more companies are manufacturing new material handling equipment that not only saves time but the labour cost in the most effective manner.

Though it makes sense to focus on the material handling speed rather than reducing the labour cost as both go hand in hand still there are organizations that have reduced the labour cost by adding such equipment to the warehouse. Any material handling equipment will work better if your staff knows the easiest tricks, and ideas to get the most out of it, maintaining the safety and quality of the stock.

Material Handling Tools for Your Stock Picking Needs:

Cargo Lifts: For stock picking or constructional material handling, these cargo lifts can be used as a safe and fast component that lifts and transports the stock. Available in different weight capacities, designs, as well as shapes, these lifts have made the stock-picking much easier than ever before.

Platform Trolleys: Recently, almost every warehouse has been considering its customized platform trolleys, which can carry any type of loads from one place to another. This has reduced the stock damage and accidents, to a great extent especially in industrial warehouses, where expensive tools and equipment are difficult to lift and transport. All platform trolleys are ergonomically designed, for maximum weight handling in a safe manner.

Hand Pallet Truck: Also known as industrial trucks, these are among the most useful material handling and stock lifting equipment for any type of warehouse. For warehouses that usually trade in large qualities of materials, and heavy-duty loads on a daily basis, hand pallet trucks are must avoid accidents and stock damage, by traditional stock picking.

There are so many features included with them, such as noise reduction, less time consumption and quick fit features to evaluate the loads etc. that you don't have to keep checking if the trucks are able to move or not.

Automatic guided vehicles: A bit expensive for smaller warehouses, but one of the most innovative materials handling equipment designed to move large quantity stock with ease. These are mobile robot vehicles that follow wires to move the materials and run by automatic guided instructions.

Now, even if you have bought such equipment for better material handling at your warehouse, you will still need smart working to utilize the features that reduce labour cost.

Here are some useful tips for effective stock picking:

Limit the Staff: Here, by limiting staff refers to limit the number of hands that work in the stock-picking area, and shipment checking departments. By doing this, you will not only minimize the human errors, but you will see how efficiently the staff has been working with the advanced stock-picking equipment, for transporting the stock from start to finish.

Smart Organization: To increase the efficiency of your warehouse, make sure you plan how to store everything in an organized manner. For instance, slotting helps reduce the chances of any accidents, stock damage and improve the space arability. Make sure you know how to categorize different sections without mixing SKUs.

While picking the stock, the most common mistakes worker make is to pick the incorrect item and then repeat the entire process of transporting, picking and placing. Thus, it is better to review the storage strategies at your warehouse before placing them together.

Cut the Travel Tine: Apart from using a platform trolley or industrial trucks, at the warehouse, the best thing you can do is to group all the high-volume SKUs together, in the same section. This area should be designed for easy accommodation so that the time of material pickings easily gets reduced.

Use Automated Material Handling Equipment: While picking and adjusting the stock, workers devote almost 60 % of their total time of material handling in moving ad walking the product around. Hence, it would be a great solution if you choose automated vehicles, managed by a single person for the transportation of the stock. This not only saves the energy of your staff but gives you a faster process of safe material handling.

Keep it Level: Most of the industry experts have been suggesting this for years that the more you level up the stock, according to their usage; the more it gets easier to manage the inventory. The product kept on the ground level can be accommodated easily as compared to stock kept vertically. So, if you want to boost the productivity, keep lower volume items stored vertically and the high-frequency items at the ground level.

If you prefer having a big staff with multiple departments for your warehouse, then it is better to not invest in automated vehicles as equipment such as a hand pallet truck or platform trolley with warehouse staircases would be very helpful for your staff for better material handling. Just make sure you are stocking the inventory in the right way.
