7 warehouse pallet storage methods

As you know companies have the warehouses to store their products in bulk. There are various warehouses and storing methods that can be used for storing the pallet effectively. Therefore, here are some of the storing methods that can prove to be the best.

Here’s a list of seven warehouse pallet storage methods to suit as per the stock that needs to be stored and the warehouse location. If you want you can also google the pallet racking system in Dubai and find the same mentioned below here -

  • Common among all the warehouse's storage methods is the Block Stacking. Pallets stacked vertically on the floor like the wheat bags. Though the height of the pallet ladder always varies due to certain conditions or situations. As the weight of the item is kept on the pallet, the pallet's own condition, height up to which forklift can lift the pallet and height clearance. The withdrawal system in this type of method is LIFO i.e. Last in First out. This is one of the easiest and convenient ways to stack the stock in any warehouse. A backdrop is that you cannot access the bottom pallet, even if needed, without removing the upper ones.

  • Another appropriate method is the Pallet Stacking Frames. These are the stacking racks constructed from decks and posts. These are advantageous for stacking pallets to the increased heights without the risk of falling. Stacking frames come in handy for the temporary storing of stocks and it’s removal whenever needed. A demerit in this method is that it is vulnerable to honeycombing (empty spaces in the warehouse which leads to less efficient use of full warehouse)

  • Single Deep Pallet Racking system can be found in the marts and is used in the warehouses for the availability of desired stock at any time. This system does not have the demerit of honeycombing like the above two storage methods. The structure is like a single rack where pallets/cases can be placed and removed with the help of forklifts, without disturbing the whole pallet storing. There are certain conditions attached to the opting of single deep pallet racking. There must be enough floor spaces for the making of aisles.

  • Double Deep Pallet Racking system is the extended version of the single deep pallet rack. Though it leads to more storage capacity and fewer aisles requirements in the warehouse, the threat of honeycombing exists, unlike single deep pallets. An extra expenditure of double and deep reach forklift is also added to this storage method.

  • Drive-In Rack by the name it is understood that the forklifts can drive inside the rack. It is somewhat similar to the double deep pallet rack system, only in this system you can enter the rack and place the pallets/cases. Since the forklifts have limited space, it takes much time as compared to other methods to securely place the stocks. Here, also the retrieval method is the same as the block-stacking i.e. LIFO, but the storage capacity is enhanced.

  • Pallet Flow Rack is the latest and expensive storing method. It is suitable for high ranking and maintenance warehouses. In this method, a rack is structured with a conveyor that allows the stock to transport from one end of the rack to the other. So on as you place the loads it will get stacked one after the other in a line. First in First out i.e. FIFO is the recovery method here because the pallets are stacked from one end and retrieved from the end. But as mentioned before not every warehouse is capable of planting this high pallet storage method.

  • Finally, the last one is the Push Back Rack. It is easy to understand the mechanism through its name. When the pallets/loads are placed in the rack, it pushes back the already placed pallets/loads in the rack. Rail guided carriers are used. The working of the push back rack is when you place the pallet on the rack in the front position it moves the already placed pallet to further backward. When you retrieve the pallet from the rack, the second positioned pallet automatically comes to the front position.

Now you understand, the LIFO system has opted here. It’s difficult when you need to access middle and backward pallets without disturbing the front one. Though it is storage efficient and uses the full space of the warehouse.

Here were the most effective and efficient warehouse pallet storage methods that are widely used. We have suggested you keep in mind all the conditions and situations of the warehouse possible. For a low-cost warehouse, either block stacking or pallet stacking frames can be considered. For the high and specific warehouse, thought can be given to pallet flow rack or drive-in rack. Therefore you need to decide as per the warehouse structure and the product that needs to be stored safely.
